Solar Attic Fans

Pull summer heat out of the attic with the sun’s own power, before it reaches your ductwork, your rooms, and your shingles.

  • No wiring, runs on sunlight
  • Lifetime manufacturer warranty

How a solar attic fan works

On a Hill Country summer afternoon, sun on the roof can push attic air past 150°F. That heat has nowhere to go, so it soaks into the insulation, the ceiling, and the AC ducts that run through the attic, and it bakes your shingles from underneath.

A solar attic fan mounts on the roof with its own small solar panel. When the sun hits the panel, the fan spins up and pushes hot attic air outside, while cooler air comes in through the soffit (intake) vents. It runs hardest exactly when the attic is hottest, and it doesn’t use a watt from your electric meter.

A cooler attic keeps your ductwork and supply air cooler, so the AC runs less, which helps lower your energy bill. Temperatures are typical summer figures for illustration; your attic will vary.

What a cooler attic does for you

  • Less strain on the AC. Ducts in a cooler attic deliver cooler air, so the system cycles less.
  • More even rooms. Upstairs and far-end rooms stop fighting radiant heat from the ceiling.
  • Longer-lasting shingles. Less heat from below means less drying and aging, which pairs well with rejuvenation.
  • Less trapped moisture. A humidity sensor runs the fan when attic air turns damp.
  • Fresh attic air, fast. Replaces the attic air about every 6 minutes (roughly 10 air changes per hour).

Built into both models

  • Adjustable solar panelTilts toward the sun, so a fan on an east slope still catches strong afternoon light.
  • Built-in thermostatSwitches on at 85°F and off at 70°F.
  • Humidity controlTurns on at 75% humidity and off at 60% to clear damp air.
  • No wiringNo electrician, no new circuit, nothing added to your bill.

How we size it

Every roof we look at gets a ventilation calculation. We only recommend fans when the numbers say your attic needs them.

Measure the attic

We compare the attic’s floor area with the intake (soffit) and exhaust (ridge, vents, fans) the building code calls for, so we know exactly what’s short.

Feed it with intake

A fan can only push out as much air as the attic pulls in. We add soffit intake where needed and close off vents that would short-circuit the fan.

Pick the right fans

We choose the size and count that change the attic air about 10 times an hour, placed on sunny slopes near the top of the roof, away from shade.

How installation works

  1. Free inspectionWe measure the attic, check intake and exhaust, and look at sun exposure.
  2. Clear recommendationFan model, count, placement, and any intake changes, in writing.
  3. Clean installWe cut, flash, and seal each fan and confirm the framing from inside the attic.
  4. Done in a dayMost installs wrap up in one visit. The fan starts with the next sunrise.

Solar attic fan questions

Do solar attic fans need electrical wiring?

No. Each fan runs on its own solar panel, so there’s no electrician, no new circuit, and nothing added to your electric bill.

Do they run at night or on cloudy days?

They run on sunlight, so they work hardest in the afternoon when attic heat builds up. They move less air under heavy cloud and rest at night, when the attic cools down on its own.

How many solar attic fans does my house need?

It depends on your attic’s size and shape. We measure the floor area and height and choose the fan size and count that changes the attic air about 10 times an hour. Large or split attics often need a fan in each section.

Will a solar attic fan make my roof leak?

Not when it’s installed right. We cut, flash, and seal each fan into the roof the same way we care for your shingles, and check the framing from inside the attic.

I already have a ridge vent. Do I still need a fan?

Maybe not. Our ventilation calculation compares your intake and exhaust with what your attic needs. If it’s already venting well, we’ll tell you, and if a fan would fight your ridge vent, we’ll fix that too.

What warranty comes with the fans?

Both fan models carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty.

A cooler attic. A longer-lasting roof. Lower bills.

A solar fan pulls trapped heat out of the attic, protects your shingles and any rejuvenation you’ve invested in, and takes load off the AC. It runs on sunshine and costs nothing to power.
